Wolfe Hall
Wolfe Hall houses state-of-the-art research laboratories for the Department of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and the College of Pharmacy. The facility cost $33 million dollars and was dedicated in 1998.
All of the biosciences faculty have their research labs on the third and fourth floors of Wolfe Hall. Graduate and undergraduate students work side by side with our faculty. Wolfe Hall is adjacent to Bowman-Oddy Laboratories which houses the teaching labs. |
Center for Molecular Biology
The CMB, located on the third floor of Wolfe Hall, provides dedicated equipment and computer software necessary to perform advanced genomic screens, microscopic imaging studies and quantitative gene expression analyses, to name a few. Also located within this facility is a phosphorimager that allows quantitative detection of radioactively labeled samples, and a fast-performance liquid chromatography (FPLC) for specific protein purification approaches. For additional descriptions and resource links vist the CMB web site. |
UT Arts and Sciences Instrumentation Center
The Instrumentation Center was formed in 1985 from a grant by the Ohio State. The primary purpose of the Center is to support research activities of the Faculty of the University of Toledo by providing advice, technical assistance and access to advanced scientific equipment. This includes education and training for graduate students. Important secondary purposes are to support the research activities of other Universities, and to assist local business ventures in solving sophisticated scientific problems.
Currently, the Center provides assistance to UT researchers in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Pharmacy. The Center specializes in Crystallographic studies and is the home to the Ohio Crystallographic Consortium (OCC).

Biological Sciences Teaching Labs
The south wing of Bowman-Oddy is home to the undergraduate teaching labs for the Biological Sciences Department. In summer of 2003, the labs underwent renovation. New computers were added so that every pair of students has their own computer. Computers are used to augment wet labs by reinforcing internet research skills, use of spreadhseet and graphing programs and presentation of information. New microscopes and spectrophotometers were also purchased. |
Biological Sciences Instructional Computer Lab
The Biological Sciences undergraduate computer lab (BO1014) has recently been upgraded (summer 2004) with 13 newDell computers with flat screen monitors. The Ohio Board of Regents provided the funding for the original cluster in 2001. The new computers are part of a University wide committment to upgrading technology on a regular basis. All levels of Biology courses use the cluster. Students in Molecular Genetics labs (BIOL3020) have completed advanced bioinformatics lab projects. Student in Developmental Biology Lab (BIOL4080) are studying gene sequences as part of their lab projects.
The computer cluster is open Monday- Friday 8:30AM- 5:30PM. It is available to all biology majors except when in use by courses. |
Biological Sciences Help Center
Looking for help with any biology course? Stop in to Bowman-Oddy 1013 and talk to one of our graduate students. The Center is designed to assist students with additional resources for understanding course material. Information on particular assignments should be directed to the faculy or teaching assistants for that course.
Hours vary each semester and are posted on the door. Generally, the center is open M-F 9AM-4PM. |
