The department offers a B.S. degree in biology. The courses and research in the department emphasize cell biology, molecular biology, genetics and related areas. The department has four professors who have won The University Outstanding Teacher of the Year award or held the title of Master Teacher of the College of Arts and Sciences. The department has three professors who have been recognized with Sigma Xi and University Outstanding Research Awards.
The bachelor's degree is designed as a four year degree. The curriculum involves biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics as well as college requirements in humanities and social sciences. The department graduates about 70 students a year. Undergraduates in biosciences have career goals that include attending professional schools (medical, veterinary, dental and osteopathic), graduate schools, medical technology, or immediate entry into the exciting field of biotechnology. Biosciences undergraduates are offered many opportunities including the chance to participate in the biology honors program, conduct undergraduate research, study abroad at the University of Salford or be selected as an undergraduate teaching assistant.
