UT Music Professor Appointed to Help Lead Lawrence Durrell School of Corfu

Raymond Marchionni, UT Professor of Music and member of the College of Arts and Sciences Executive Committee, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Lawrence Durrell School of Corfu (GR). The DSC is named in honor of the noted 20th century Irish author, perhaps best known for his four-volume novel the Alexandria Quartet, who for a 5-year period lived on the island of Corfu. The school annually sponsors international seminars on interdisciplinary topics that draw scholars and leaders in their respective fields from all corners of the globe. Marchionni will also serve as Academic Director for the DSC seminar entitled “Cultural Collisions,’ a topic he proposed and to be held May 31-June 5, 2009. Additionally, as a Board member, he has been appointed this year to spearhead a new strategic plan for the DSC. Visit the school online at http://www.durrell-school-corfu.org/index.htm.

UT Senior Voice Students Win Top Honors

The University of Toledo Department of Music is proud to announce that three senior voice students of Professor Barbara Rondelli-Perry have won prizes in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Great Lakes Regional Auditions at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, on March 1, 2008. They are: Lorna Lynn Parks, Janet Brehm Taylor, and Emily Holsclaw. Robert Ballinger was accompanist/coach for all UT singers.
Lorna won 3rd prize in the Advanced Women category, Janet won 3rd prize in the extended Advanced Men/Women category, and Emily won 2nd prize in the Fourth Year College Women category. The Regional Auditions are open to colleges and universities in the states of Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan, as well as Ontario province in Canada, which may give you an idea of the extremely high level of competition in which these students participated. All categories required arias from opera and oratorio, foreign language art song, and contemporary American/British art song.
The expense of their participation in this very large regional competition was underwritten by the Richard R. and Barbara R. Perry Program Excellence Fund, including application fees, room and meal accommodations, and transportation to and from the University to Ball State, via chartered University of Toledo van, with University of Toledo driver.
