Welcome to the Department of Theatre and Film!
Students in the Department of Theatre and Film participate in theatre productions both on and back stage, create their own films and videos, travel for arts programs in Study Abroad (Costa Rica, Hungary, London to name a few), participate in special master classes like Steadicam, land internships with organizations such as Disney, Viacom and others. In addition guest artists from all over the world work with students as designers, directors, filmmakers and performers through our international connections.
Join us for our newest season, focusing on the theme of Obsession. Ambition, desire, lust, religious fervor, revenge – obsessions come in many shapes and flavors. Like Scheherezade of The Arabian Nights, we all have stories to tell – tales of obsessive love such as Wong Kar-Wai’s Chungking Express and Dennis Lehane’s Coronado, of sweeping ambition in Shakespeare’s Macbeth and in Kurosawa’s re-imagining of the Macbeth story in Throne of Blood, the religious fervor of extremists in the new documentary Divided We Fall and of ordinary people just trying to cope in Lynn Nottage’s Crumbs from the Table of Joy. And so much more! We hope you’ll join us for 1001 nights of joy and sorrow, love and betrayal, defeat and redemption.
