Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership

Committed to the Development of Educational Leaders and Scholars

The mission of the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership is to prepare and develop educational leaders and scholars to be agents of transformation on all levels of educational systems. A learning paradigm informs our graduate programs, which are student-centered, inquiry-based, and integrated in terms of theory and practice.  This approach is grounded in the philosophy of The Judith Herb College of Education, “Individuals at the center of their own learning in a rich intellectual environment characterized by choice.”

The Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership offers the following graduate programs (Masters, Ed.D., and Ph.D.):

      • Educational Administration and Supervision
      • Educational Psychology
      • Higher Education
      • Research and Measurement
      • Social Foundations of Education (including philosophy, sociology, and history of education)

The Department is also the home of the following research centers:

      1. National Council on Student Development (NCSD)
      2. John H. Russel Center for Educational Leadership
      3. Center for Nonviolence and Democratic Education (CNDE)
