In 1967, Richard E. White was recruited by Toledo University to join its Higher Education faculty. At the time, he was working as the Assistant Director of the Minnesota State Junior College System. (Prior to that, he had worked as president at two junior colleges, as the Director of Institutional Relationships at the University of Minnesota, and as Assistant to a Vice President at the University of Minnesota.) Intrigued by the thought of focusing on teaching rather than administration, he made the decision to move to Toledo and join the faculty. He remained a member of The University of Toledo faculty until 1994. In addition to his duties as a member of the Higher Education faculty, he also served as an Associate Dean for the College of Education from 1971 to 1985. His responsibilities included all the business affairs of the college. In recognition of his outstanding administrative skills, he was asked to serve the University as Interim Dean of the College of Education in 1983 and Acting University Budget Director for six months in 1989. His commitment to The University of Toledo is exemplified by the fact that all four of his children received either undergraduate or graduate degrees from UT. His four children, Mary White Himmelein, Sarah White Groves, Claire White Achen, and Richard L. White, are pleased to dedicate this brick in honor of their father.
