The Recreation and Leisure Program is accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR). The program prepares recreation professionals for rewarding and exciting careers in the rapidly growing field of parks, recreation, and leisure services through traditional campus and web based courses.
The program also offers a concentration in YMCA Professional Studies (YPSP). The University of Toledo YPSP concentration gives students opportunities to
qualify for YMCA Senior Director Certification while they study for their Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies. Students will be able to enrich their academic studies, explore career options, serve as community leaders and engage in professional development experiences.
After completing the Recreation and Leisure Program, students may earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree. The bachelor's degree is designed to prepare recreation students for employment in parks and leisure service positions within settings such as schools, youth serving organizations, camps, national, state, and local government recreation and parks departments, employee recreation divisions of corporations, intramural and recreational sports divisions of colleges and universities, and retirement communities.
Faculty in the program have diverse interests and experience in adventure leadership, community recreation programming and management, nature interpretation, outdoor recreation, recreation park and recreation planning and leisure theory.
Recreation and leisure enables students to have an impact in their work, in their communities, on the environment, and in the lives of others through a rewarding profession.
